it should be avoided to say you hate someone as a whole, but rather the qualities of that person, unless they have no redeeming qualities. this is why you may say you hate someone yet you remember the good memories. this is because you don’t truly hate them. you hate whatever characteristic of theirs that caused you guys to separate. this is actually a person you cared for. You can only feel such strong feelings towards people that were impactful in your life. love and hate are in the same category of strong emotions, and can easily jump between the two.
